How many modes are In Magento 2?

In Magento 2 there are 3 types of Modes.

  1. Default
  2. Developer
  3. Production

What is Default Mode?

As the name implies, the default mode is when no other mode is specified. In the default mode, This mode allows you to deploy the Magento application on a single server without changing any settings. When you launch a Magento 2 site, this is the default mode. It is a combination of developer and production mode.

The Default mode has the following key features:

  1. Exceptions and Errors are never shown to the user.
  1. They are logged to var/reports directory at the server.
  2. Default Mode is not optimized for production environments, primarily because of the adverse performance impact of static files being dynamically generated rather than materialized. This means that creating static files and caching them has a greater performance impact than generating them using the status files creation tool.

What is Developer Mode?

The intended use case for this mode is when you are extending or customizing the installation, such as changing themes or adding extensions and products.
Though slower on the frontend and Magento admin, it automatically compiles code and features advanced logging and debugging.

The Developer mode has the following key features:

  1. System logging is enabled and written verbosely to ‘var/report’.
  2. Uncaught exceptions and errors are displayed in the browser
  3. Automatic code compilation.

What is Production Mode?

Production mode is intended for deployment on a production system. you should set the Magento 2 in production mode.

The Developer mode has the following key features:

  1. Prevents automatic code file compilation. New or updated files are not written to the file system.
  2. Errors are never displayed to the user. Instead, they are logged to the filesystem.
